The Death Meditation And Business

Someday, I am going to put together a stand-up comic routine and sign up for an open mic night.

Someday.

I’m too nervous now to do it.

In the meantime, I just read books like “The Hidden Tools Of Comedy” and scratch out jokes on a napkin or something.

Anyways, today I was reading and came across this quote:

“Art has two constant, two unending concerns: It always meditates on death and thus always creates life.”

Pretty deep stuff for a book on making people laugh, right?

The thing is though…

It’s 100% true.

For art AND business.

Too many newbie entrepreneurs put their focus on the money. The end result. The good stuff.

“The life”.

And they never get anywhere.

Grizzled veterans of the “make your own way” world know that if you want “The Life” you have to focus on “The Death”.

“The Death” is the stuff that sucks to think about.

“What are my prospects’ REAL problems?”

“Even if it feels like it, my business probably isn’t running at 100% efficiency. What can I fix?”

“Oh no, there is a new competitor in town. What’s my strategy?”

These are “The Death” questions.

These are the “impending doom” thoughts.

This is the stuff that therapists will tell you to stop thinking about.

This is the stuff your loved ones roll their eyes at when you start fidgeting at the dinner table thinking about.

This is the stuff that creates “The Life”.

It’s counterintuitive.

Focusing on problem areas = success.

But it’s true.

And nobody ever really talks about it.

“Art has two constant, two unending concerns: It always meditates on death and thus always creates life.”

But it isn’t enough just to think about “The Death” questions. You have to take action.

And sometimes you can’t take it alone.

Which is why you should hire me.

If you aren’t constantly thinking, “How can I increase my conversions?” or “How can I sell more?” you simply won’t survive.

The Internet moves too fast.
